About Rachel

Originally from Southern CA, Rachel earned a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy through Pepperdine University in 2005, achieving LMFT independent licensure in 2010.  Her wide range of experience includes individual, child and family therapy in group homes, schools, and outpatient addiction and Seriously Mentally Ill adult residential programs.  Rachel approaches therapy through Object Relations and Attachment theory which aid clients understand how past relationships with care givers, influence present attitudes, thoughts and reactiveness in relationships.  Rachel is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Play therapy.  Through empowering and advocating, Rachel assists clients discover and understand existing strengths and coping skills to promote personal growth and desired change.  Rachel is an army wife of 20+ years and has a heart for serving military families and veterans. When Rachel is not working she is highly involved with her children’s academic and sports activities.

About Ulises

“Home” since 1993 following his assignment to Luke AFB, Ulises was inspired into the helping profession through volunteerism with a central Phoenix inner city ministry.  In 2007, Ulises completed a Masters in Professional Counseling through Ottawa University, achieving LPC and LMFT independent licensure in 2011 and 2015.  Passionate about his community Ulises founded Light of Life Counseling Services in 2014 to assist the under serviced resident of the far west valley.  Ulises incorporates Attachment theory and Solution Focused therapy to encourage desired change by helping clients beak unhealthy cycle of past relationships while embracing the process of growth.  Ulises is trained in CBT, TF-CBT and CPT and also incorporates solution focused approaches to reinforce change outside of therapy.  Serving as a Military Officer, inner city minister, addictions therapist, crisis counselor and family therapist in community and private practice, Ulises has 20+ years of experience helping clients with their mental health and emotional needs.

Outside of work, Ulises is highly involved with his son’s school and sports activities, volunteering as a community sports coach and leading his churches Men’s Ministry.

About Joyce

A native of Arizona, Joyce entered the helping profession as a second career after first serving as a homemaker.  With her children grown, Joyce completed a Masters in Social work through ASU and LMSW associate licensure in 2005.  Joyce’s 15 years of therapy experience came from work with child and families in DFCS family reunification and later while directing the Buckeye Family Services Center.  Joyce counsels using a wide range of educational, professional and life experience approaches best described as Strength’s Based.  Through psychotherapy and active listening she affirms the importance of cultural diversity and autonomy for each client, acknowledging the importance of an individual’s personal experiences and challenges.  Joyce desires clients to know that if they remain willing and committed to resolving their concerns they will be successful.

Outside of therapy Joyce enjoys spending time with her mother, adult children and grandchildren.  She is a strong proponent of exercise, walking her three dogs and riding her horses daily.  She also enjoys sewing, reading and games with family and friends.

Amelia “Amie” Lohr MSW, LMSW

Arriving with her family to Luke AFB in 1981, Amie considers herself an Arizona native despite further military deployments and moves.  While at Misawa AB Amie became interested in working with children, teens and families through base Family Advocacy services. In 2005, Amie completed a Master’s in Social Work through ASU, achieving LMSW associate licensure in 2006.  Amie has over 15 years of clinical experience through in-home services, structured school and outpatient programs, crisis intervention, private practice and community programs.  Amie is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral, Somatic and Crisis Intervention strategies, Internal Family Systems, Emotional Freedom Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Amie is invested in integrative and whole-person approaches emphasizing Systems and Transpersonal Theoretical Approaches, which look at behavior and problems through individual and relational contexts.  She generally incorporate Motivational Interviewing and CBT for general mental health concerns, TF-CBT and CPT for trauma work, and Dialectical Behavioral and Somatic and Crisis Intervention strategies for learning new behaviors in all system participants.  When not working, Amie enjoys reading literary fiction, traveling to explore familiar and new places, going on walks or hikes, and spending time with her family.

About Michelle

Michelle received her Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2007 from ASU, holding certifications as a Family Trauma Professional, TBRI Practitioner and Making Sense of Your (Past) Worth program facilitator.  Michelle has over 10 years of caring for children with behavioral concerns stemming from developmental delays and neurodiversity, in state and private foster care and adoption programs.  During this time, she and her husband also served as a foster parents to multiple children.  Her combined professional and personal experience allows her unique insights into the challenges of parenting children with difficult pasts, and the importance of “brain-based connected parenting.”  Michelle is trained in Family systems, TBRI, attachment theories, and Interpersonal Neurobiology and holds specialization in Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders.  She has a passion for helping couples and families working in law enforcement, experiencing infertility or those seeking pre-marital counseling.  Michelle approaches every client with a systemic perspective, to aid them recognize and understand how past and current relational experiences impact well-being.  Michelle incorporates movement, sensory work, neurobiology, attachment and play (Yes adults to!) into her therapy sessions.  Outside of the office, Michelle is a busy wife, mother of two teenagers and a Scoutmaster.  She has learned to love camping…is learning to love hiking and definitely loves to scrapbook her family’s adventures.
